There was a time when we used to discuss songs on the occasion of anni9versaries of artists. That practice is no longer as common now a days as used to be the case. Things are slow in the blog at the moment, but one should not be surprised if we soon pick up pace once again. At this juncture my time is being taken up in other matters. Some of the result of my work is available on the blog for those who may have noticed it (like for instance Sudhir Ji and Mr Sadanand Kamath, for instance). Baburao Patel, the fiery editor of ‘Filmindia’ magazine ( later known as ‘Mother India’) was associated with Hindi film industry since 1931. During 1931-35, he directed 5 films – “kismet’ (1931, Silent film), ‘Sati Mahananda’ (1933), ‘Maharani’ (1934), ‘Bala Joban’ (1934) and ‘Pardesi Saiyaan’ (1935) . However, with the starting of his monthly film magazine ‘Filmindia’ in 1935, Baburao Patel appeared to have taken a long sabbatical from Hindi film industry to concentrate on his editorial work. He again joined Hindi film industry in 1944 as producer and director of the film ‘Draupadi’ (1944), to promote Susheela Rani as actor-singer. This was followed by another film ‘Gwalan’ (1946).

An out and out theatre person who seemed to have stepped on to the silver screen by accident. My first introduction to Dinesh Thakur was when I went to see a stage play in Delhi. I was in school, and the book-reading bug had bit me big time. I was devouring books by the dozen almost on a weekly basis. I got introduced to a wide variety of written genres and authors. In the midst of this, one stream was reading stage plays. Of course, started with the Shakespeare’s ‘Midsummer’s Night Dream’ which was part of our English curriculum. I picked up books of plays written by western authors, and then also got interested in reading plays by Indian authors.
