However, after three posts I now realise that, with so many of the Pancham gems not posted here, it is quite a difficult task. Only if religion had not fallen out of favor with the film industry. Kya kahen, sab paise ki maya hai (what to say, it is all a money game). The producers say that the public is not interested. And so they will lose money if they make religious films. And so we have been seeing less and less of religious and spiritual themes on screen. Rather, I do not recall seeing any title that indicates a religious film, in the past decade or so.

Today (19 november 2014) is the birth anniversary of Zeenat Aman (19 november 1951). She was one of the most popular leading ladies of Hindi movies during the 1970s. She, alongwith Parveen Babi, represented the “Westernised” women as opposed to traditional Indian women that actresses like Hema Malini, Rekha etc of that era represented.

The third song song of this series is a beauty from “Phir Kab Milogi”, a 1974 movie produced by Hari Mehra, directed by Hrishikesh Mukharjee. The songs were penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri, composed by R D Burman and sung by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh.

“Pinjra”(1972) was a extremely successful Marathi movie produced and directed by V Shantaram and starring Dr Shreeram Laagoo and Sandhya in lead roles. This movie in fact won the National award for the best film in Marathi in 1972.

The second song of this series is a lovely duet from the 1973 film “Chhalia”. This movie was a United Movie Arts presentation, produced by Sudesh Raj Gupta and directed by Mukul Dutt. Cinematography is by K K Mahajan, songs are penned by Rajinder Krishan and composed by Rahul Dev Burman. The six songs are sung by Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi, Mukesh and Vani Jayram. Three of these songs are already posted here and this post will leave two more solos by Asha Bhosle to be posted.

Today (14 november 2014) is Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday. He was very fond of Children and so his birthday began to be celebrated as “Bal Divas” or Children’s day in India. It is clear that this day became “Children’s day” in India only after Indian Independence. I am not aware when this day was first celebrated this way. I request our senior regulars to throw light on this matter.
