Blog Day :

2486 Post No. : 11111

(You must have heard the song – “Badaa Hi CID Hai Wo Neeli Chhatri Waala”.  It is on our blog.  Seems as if this song needs to be modified.  Like This – “Bade Hi CID Hain, Ye Atul Gang Ke Members, Gaana Guess Karne Mein Hain Awwal Number”.  Sorry, this one is not yet on the blog).

Before today, I had only heard the name. Poring through the lists of artists, one comes across so many names, and so many times, one just skips over and goes ahead.

Today, I heard his voice for the first time. And simply fell in love with it. It started with this song, and then in search of this voice, I went over the online resources, and got a chance to hear more of his songs, most of them in chaste Punjabi.  And I am thinking, what misfortune that I never got introduced to this voice earlier.

The blog has seen two dry days in a row when no new posts were made. It is something unusual for the blog but it cannot be avoided. As it is, I was travelling all these days. In fact my travel is not over yet. I have to commence my return journey from today and it will be another couple of days before I arrive back at my base.

Rafi Sb – In The Seventies – 4

(1972 – Duet)

Here is the duet that I have selected from 1972. Another peerless and lovely memory from the radio listening days. A song that is softly composed and softly rendered in a leisurely pace. Asha Bhosle accompanies Rafi Sb in the singing. The film is ‘Parchhaaiyaan’, the lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri and the music composition is by RD Burman. On screen, this song is performed by Vinod Khanna, a new comer heroine, Reshma. A name that I am not familiar with at all. Apparently she appeared in not many films. Given the on screen presence, it is likely she did not make any lasting impressions at all.

There are quite a few good to very good actors who were eclipsed when the Amitabh Bachchan wave hit Bollywood in the 70s. Some tried doing a few solo movies before doing multi star cast movies with AB as the main character. So much so that they didn’t mind being overshadowed by the Bachchan. Who can forget Amar Akbar Anthony (1977)? Manmohan Desai made a movie with the story being about 3 brothers. But people thought that Bachchan’s Anthony was the prominent character. And inspite of being a diehard Bachchan fan I love to see the scenes of AMAR in the movie. Specially the scene in the jail where he questions Robert’s men about who shot the police commissioner (played by Kamal Kapoor). There are other parts in the movie featuring Vinod Khanna (who played Amar) that stand out.
