Today’s song is the last and final song from a romantic comedy film Dil deewana-1974.
This light comedy film was made by Rose Movies, Bombay. Directed by Narendra Bedi, the film had music by R.D.Burman. Anand Bakshi wrote the songs. The cast included Randhir Kapoor, Jaya Bhaduri, Aruna Irani, Satyen kappu, Manmohan, Paintal, Tun Tun, Rasheed khan, Durga Khote and a loooong list of other actors, including Komal (I remember her in one of my favourite films- Chameli ki Shaadi-1986) and Jagdish Raj – the permanent Police Officer since 1956. We have seen him promoted to police Commissioner from just a Sub Inspector in films.

The post today has something in common with Atulji’s post, which inspired this one. Atulji introduced Divya Bharati when he came to the letter D in his series of alphabetical posts featuring actresses lip-synching to Asha Bhosle’s songs. The film from which today’s song is taken is believed to deal, in some way, with Divya Bharati’s death, which occurred nearly 20 years before the film was released. How far this connection is actually true, however, is difficult for me to say.
With today’s post, the actress Devshi Khanduri makes her debut on this blog. Devshi Khanduri is not only an actress, but also a model and lyricist. She was born on 13 March 1983 in Mumbai and brought up in Dehradun. She began modeling while she was in college and subsequently worked in advertising and fashion before making her entry into films. She had already worked on advertising campaigns and fashion assignments before turning to acting.

The cast included Karan Roy (Rohit Roy), Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, Kiran Kumar, Mohnish Bahl, Deepak Shirke, Reema Lagoo, Raj Kiran, Neena Gupta, Vikram Gokhale, Anjaan Shrivastav, Ashutosh Gowariker, Makrand Deshpande, Dinesh Hingoo, Mushtaq Khan, Vinod Pande, Rakesh Dube etc. This was the debut film of Rohit Roy who has adopted his screen name, Karan Roy for the film.

‘Naya Bakra’ (1979) was produced and directed by K Babuji who also wrote the story and composed the songs of the film. The cast included Vinod Mehra, Chandralekha Mukherjee, Mehmood, Jagdeep, Paintal, Mukri, Helen, Utpal Dutt, Dev Kumar, Azad, Maruti, Bhagwan, Birbal, Raj Kishore etc. The highlight of the film was that there were some of the top stars of 1970s such as Jitendra, Rajesh Khanna, Rekha and Reena Roy who made their special appearances.

‘Yugpurush’ (1998) was produced by Vijay Mehta and was directed by Partho Ghosh. The cast included Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Manisha Koirala, Ashwini Bhave, Mohnish Bahl, Shivaji Satam, Mohan Joshi, Sulabha Deshpande, Ravi Patwardhan (he was my colleague in RBI, who was associated with Inter-bank Hindi and Marathi dramas and Marathi films and theatres), Yashwant Dutt, Jayant Savarkar, Raj Tilak etc. The film’s story was inspired from the novel, ‘The Idiot’ (1868) by Russian author, Fyodor Dostoevasky. Producer, Vijay Mehta is the son of producer Pranlal Mehta who had produced some well known films like ‘Kinaara’ (1977), ‘Kitaab’ (1977), ‘Ham Se Badkar Kaun’ (1981), ‘Bezubaan’ (1982), ‘Dharam Aur Kaanoon’ (1986) among others. Actor Jay Mehta is another son of Pranlal Mehta.

‘Sheesha’ (1986) was produced by Sattee Shourie and was directed by Basu Chatterji. The cast included Mithun Chakraborty, Moon Moon Sen, Mallika Sarabhai, Vijayendra Ghatge, Suresh Chatwal, Naaz, Mrinalini, Madhumeeta, Guddi Maruti, Nandita Thakur, Sudha Chopra, Bhagwan Sinha, Ranjana Sachdev, Arvind Deshpande, Shakeela Majeed etc. The film’s story was based on a Bengali novel, ‘Maan Sammaan’ written by Mani Shankar Mukherjee. The film was delayed in its completion due to budgetary constraints and the creative differences between the producer and the director. At one time, the film remained incomplete for a year or so until Mithun Chakraborty persuaded Sattee Shourie to let the film be completed for which he gave up a part of his fee. Basu Chatterji also waived his last instalment of fee. The film was certified by CBFC on June 15, 1986. The film got the theatrical release on October 3, 1986.

Today’s song is the last and final song from a Horror film- Darwaza-1978.
I have been seeing films (Hindi, English, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarathi and Tamil) since the late 1940s and have seen films of almost every genre, but I always avoided watching Horror films. One reason was that the Horror films made in Hindi were of very low quality, poor stories, poorer music and the audience of lower strata of society, generally. Not that the educated people are not fond of Horror films, but their percentage is very less. Such people increased after well known filmmakers started making Horror films.
