Today’s song is the last and final song from a ‘ Middle of the road’ type of comedy film Safed Jhoot-1977.
The film, directed by one of my favourite directors- Basu Chaterjee, had music by a less known M.D.- Shyamal Mitra. The cast of the film included Ashok Kumar, Vinod Mehra, Mithu Mukherjee, Deven Verma, Vidya Sinha, Manik Dutt, Aroop Ganguly (son 0f Ashok Kumar), Pradeep Kumar as a Guest artist and Amol Palekar in a ” Friendly appearance”- whatever it means ! There were many Bengali actors in supporting roles. The producer (Ashim Kumar), Director and the Music Director too were Bengalis.

‘Soldier – Thakur Diler Singh’ (1969) was produced by Pachhi and was directed by Shyam. The cast included Deepa and Kumar Ajit (Ajit Singh Deol) who made their debut in the lead roles. The supporting cast included Shyam Kumar, Rajan Haksar, Amarnath, Jagdev, Parshuram, Satish, Sujata, Jayshree T, Bilkis, Shabana, Satya Devi, Habib, Amir Ali, Aziz Kashmiri, Randhir etc. Dharmendra, Om Prakash and Mehmood made special appearances in the film, probably to give the ‘star power’ to the film. In this film, two real brothers worked – Dharmendra with Ajit Deol and Om Prakash with Producer, Pachhi (real name: Ram Prakash Chibber) who also acted in the film.

Today’s song is the last and final song from a Stunt film- Rani aur Jaani-1973.
The film was made at Madras by P.N.R. Pictures. It was directed by K.S.R. Das (5-1-1936 to 8-6-2012), a versatile director of 76 Telugu, 20 Kannada and 8 Hindi films. The music was by Satyam and the Lyricist was Hasrat Jaipuri. The initial name of the film was ‘ Do dil do raaste” and even the song records were made with this name, but before submitting the film to Censors, the title was changed to Rani aur Jaani-1973.
The cast of the film was Anil Dhawan, Aruna Irani, Jyoti Laxmi (south), Narndranath, Jagdeep, Sulochan Latkar, Rama Prabha (South), Shetty, Bindu (special appearance) and a large mix of south and Bollywood actors.

‘Kabzaa’ (1988) was produced by Nanabhai Bhatt and was directed by his son, Mahesh Bhatt. The cast included Raj Babbar, Sanjay Dutt, Amrita Singh, Alok Nath, Paresh Rawal, Neelu Phule, Mahesh Anand, Mushtaq Khan, Kamal Chopra, Anupam Kher, Dimple Kapadia, Akash Khurana, Tiku Talsania, Disco Shanthi, Avtar Gill, Akhtar Masood, Deepak Qazir, Manek Choudhry, A.C. Poddar, Suresh Bhagwat, Ghanshyam etc. This was the first film under the banner Vishesh Films which was floated by Mukesh Bhatt with Mahesh Bhatt acting as a creative partner. However, their father, Nanabhai Bhatt was credited as the producer of the film.
The story, screenplay and dialogues were written by Salim Khan which was said to have been inspired from the Hollywood film ‘On the Waterfront’ (1954) starring Marlon Brando. A decade later, Vishesh Films made ‘Ghulaam’ (1998), almost a remake of ‘Kabzaa). Both the Hindi versions of the Hollywood film were customised into the Indian socio-political scenarios in which ordinary citizens faces the wrath of the criminals.

Then we went on to cover a song that was lip synced by another acresses whose name began with the same letter and who had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.
The exercise of finding a “new” actress whose name begins with a particular letter is being increasingly difficult. The three “new” actresses who made their debuts in the blog (as far as lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice is concerned) were Anju Mahendru, Bhanupriya, Chandrakala,Divya Bharati, Ekta,Farheen,Gulnar Irani,Harsha Mehra,Isha Koppikar,Jasmine,Khushboo, Laila and Madhavi.
In this episode, we arrive at the fourteenth letter N. The letter N has thrown up good number of Hindi film actresses. Akash Khurana, Mahesh Anand, Soni Razdan, Ila Arun, Avtar Gill, Javed Khan, Anang Desai, Anupam Kher, Mushtaq Khan, Promod Mautho etc with friendly appearances by Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Paresh Rawal and Rohini Hattangadi.

‘Sastee Dulhan Mehanga Dulha’ (1986) was produced and directed by Bappi Sonie who introduced six new actors in this film – Mahesh Anand, Priya Tendulkar, Nirmal (later known as Aditya Pancholi), Chhabbi Dhariwal, Kavita and Arun. Rest of the cast included Rajindernath, Krishan Dhawan, Sudhir Dalvi, Dan Dhanoa, Beena, Jr Mehmood, Goga Kapoor, Ritu Khanna, Col. Kapoor, Janakidas, Kamaldeep etc. The film is a social drama on the dowry system. This was Bappi Sonie’s last film as a director. This is the only film in which Mahesh Anand played the lead role among 300 odds films he did, majorly in Hindi and Telugu films.

Today’s post is Prakashchandrajee’s farmaish. He requested me to write a post on the song “tum mere sapnon me aanaa chhodd do“ from the film Madhavi (1969). He had mentioned this song in a comment to the post written by Atuljee on “Actresses whose name begin with the letter D and have lip-synced to Asha Bhosle’s song.“ In this comment he had mentioned the actress Deepa who debuted in this film.
On imdb the role of Madhavi is attributed to the actress Unni Mary, to whom the name Deepa is also attributed. Her birth year is given as 12 March 1962. The film Madhavi was released in 1969, which would make the actress at the most 7 years old in the film. The actress Deepa in the film looks anything but seven. Thus, it must be false attribution. I couldn’t unearth anything more than this about this actress.
Madhavi (1969) is a rather unusual historical costume drama. The film is based on the Marathi play “Punya Prabhav” by R.G. Gadkari. The film stars Sanjay Khan, Padmini and Pran. Deepa is given the credit as “Introducing Deepa as Madhavi”. The producer is B. Radhakrishna. This film is directed by Tapi Chanakya.

The film was produced by Radheshyam Jhunjhunwala, for his own banner J.J.Films, Bombay. The film was directed by an expert – Satyen Bose and the music was provided by a pair of Shailesh Mukherjee and Vedpal Verma. The cast included Shashikala, Abhi Bhattacharya, Pronoti (Ghosh- she was the wife of Abhi Bhattacharya), Sajjan, Pachotia, Zebunnisa, Shakuntala, Indira Chitnis, Kesarbai (eldest sister of actress Hansa Wadkar), Zaina and many others.

‘Sikka’ (1976) was produced by Rajendrapal Trehan under the banner of Mona Movies and was directed by Dilip Bose. The cast included Anil Dhawan, Ambika Johar, Ashoo, Helen, Krishan Dhawan, Satyen Kappu, Mohan Choti, Bhushan Tiwari, Rajan Haksar, Yasmin, Keshto Mukherjee, Anjana, Nana Palsikar etc. This was the only film produced by Rajendrapal Trehan. Aashoo was the second lead actress paired with Anil Dhawan.
