The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest award in cinema. It is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The recipient is honoured for their “outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema” and is selected by a committee consisting of eminent personalities from the Indian film industry. The award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs 1,000,000 (US$14,000). Presented first in 1969, the award was introduced by the Government of India to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke’s contribution to Indian cinema. Phalke (1870–1944), who is popularly known as and often regarded as “the father of Indian cinema”, was an Indian filmmaker who directed India’s first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra.

Films are regarded as director’s medium. He is like a captain of the ship. It is the director’s responsibility to make his film successful – critically as well as financially.
A film director may have directed many successful films but he will generally be known by his one classic cult film. For instance, when we talk about PC Barua, ‘Devdas’ (1935) comes to our mind first though he had directed other successful films like ‘Mukti’ (1937) and ‘Jawaab’ (1942). In case of Mehboob Khan, it is ‘Mother India’ (1957) though he had directed many successful films in the 1940s. K Asif and ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ (1960), Guru Dutt and ‘Pyaasa’, (1957) and Kamal Amrohi and ‘Pakeezah’ (1972) are inseparable. In the international arena, Raj Kapoor is known more for his film, ‘Aawaara’ (1951) than other equally successful films. This is not an exhaustive list.

This is my 800th post on this Blog ! Simply unbelievable !! Seems like, I had just started writing about old films yesterday only !!!
When I look back on my journey of last few years, I see me, learning operating computers at the age of 71 years and then start writing posts from the 72nd year. In last 7 years, almost precisely, I wrote more than 800 articles on various Blogs and sites and even published one book ! Can all this be true ? God has been very kind to me, I would say.

“Khoon Ki Pukar” released in 1978 – censor certificate is dated 29-5-1978. It was directed by Ramesh Ahuja and produced by Tahir Husain’s T. V. Films Pvt. Ltd. It had a cast headed by Vinod Khanna and Shabana Azmi with Aruna Irani, Amjad Khan, Roopesh Kumar, Krishnakant and Pran as main supporting characters. It is a well-known fact that Shailendra wrote maximum number of songs for the music director, Shankar-Jaikishan (around 365 songs) out of about 750 songs he wrote during his life time. The second in line among music directors was Salil Chowdhury for whom Shailendra wrote around 105 songs. The third place was taken by S D Burman for whom he wrote around 70 songs. There were others music directors for whom he wrote songs albeit in comparatively lesser numbers. They were Roshan, S N Tripathi, Hemant Kumar, Anil Biswas, C Ramchandra, Ravi, Dattaram, and Kishore Kumar.

Pudcha Varshi Lavkar Ya
Ganesh Chaturthi is the festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha. It falls on the Shukla Chaturthi (4th day after Amavasya) in the month of Bhadrapada of the Hindu calendar i.e. August-September of the Gregorian calendar. Now this is common to the whole of India. And everyone has their own list of prasad that they offer to the lord. And all the panchang reading elders will tell us that when the Chaturthi starts etc and for how many days the festival will be for (usually 10) but due to the lunar calendar that is followed there will be some ghatika calculations which will determine if the festival ends on the 10th or 11th day.
