The initial movies of Raj Kapoor were made with Raj Kapoor as hero and Nargis/Vyjyanti Mala/Padmini etc as leading lady. And in these movies Shankar Jaikishan would compose the music. This combination was repeated till “Mera Naam Joker” (1970). This movie flopped big time and Raj Kapoor found himself on the verge of bankruptcy.

On 15 August, 1988, Indian TV audience were glued to their TVs to watch the telecast of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s address to the nation from Red Fort, Delhi. There was no question of people going for their remotes and watching any other TV programme for the simple reason that there was only one TV channel in India and that was the government owned Doordarshan. And TV remotes were not even an accessory with TVs sold in India those days.

I like to listen to old songs as is obvious from the songs posted here. But what about the present generation ? They obviously listen to the contemporary music. But it is for people like us to make them aware of the musical treasures of the old movies.
