A very Happy Holi to 9th holi today (13 march 2017) on this blog. And every holi we have Atul posting songs for the occasion. We have approximately 50 songs to celebrate holi. So does that mean we are out of songs? No, not at all! How can that happen? As long as we have Hindi Movies and as long as they have songs in them we can be sure of at least one holi song a year if not more. Oh, I seem to be echoing Sudhirji’s thoughts from his 2015’s holi post. But that is the truth of the matter. Holi will never go out of fashion in Bollywood. The only thing that might change is that people will request others to have dry holi this year as many parts of the country are facing drought conditions. And still others will opt for using organic colours that are less harmful to the skin etc. But what about the general public of the country who cannot afford the expensive organic stuff they will stick to the traditional gulal in various hues.

Yash Chopra was born on 27 september (1931) whereas Lata’s birthday falls one day later on 28 september (1929). “We re both librans and thus understand each other as persons, perfectly..” wrote Yash Chopra in his Foreward to Lata Geetkosh (vol VI) which was complied and edited by Snehashish Chatterji, a Lata devotee par excellence who has made it his life’s mission to bring out all the lyrics of Lata in various volumes of Lata Geetkosh and the above Vol VI is the first volume in the series which covers Lata’s songs from 1966 to 1970.. The first few pages of the book, which give the statistics of Lata songs during that period is in itself worth the price of the volume (Rs/-695/-). These statistics page tell us that Lata sang 549 songs in 233 movies from 1966-1970 which included 382 solos, 132 duets (with male singers) and 32 duets (with female singers) and three other songs.

“Doosri Sita” got released in 1974 and sank without a trace, taking with it the musical score. Only in the course of R D Burman revival, did the songs resurface again. I remember listening to them on radio in the late 70s and early 80s on Vividh Bharati. The name Doosri Sita, though never really registered itself in my mind.
