ASAD 10th Anniversary Celebrations – 15

It has been a while since my last post here – and I have no excuses for this. I will not cite “been busy” as an excuse, because, if I’m honest, I could certainly have found time for a post. If anything, the only reason for not posting is my sheer laziness. And laziness is never, and should never be, an acceptable excuse. So, no excuses. Mea culpa.
One thing though. While I might not be posting frequently, this blog is never far from my heart. It might not be apparent from my recent (non-existent) interactions but this is fact. Whether I post here or not, this blog is very special to me. After all, I have been involved with it from day one. So I request everyone to please excuse my prolonged absence. (Some might consider it not such a bad thing. 🙂 )

This Blog is completing 10 years on 19th July 2018.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Blog and CONGRATULATIONS for ATUL ji.
I have yet to come across a similar blog which is running smoothly for 10 years, earning readers’ love and participation to an unbelievable level. The blog has created its own world of ATULITES, consisting of contributors of articles, lyrics, data supply, silent workers behind the limelight, who keep the blog’s non working videos replaced, untiringly and well wishers. The ATULITES run a WA group, meet at different locations in India (Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Lucknow) from time to time and otherwise keep connected with emails and phone calls. This is an exceptional example, how people of diverse interests-vocations-locations and different age groups stick together with the central magnet of what is called as ‘atulsongaday,’.

Today is the death anniversary of one of India’s biggest superstars, Rajesh Khanna, affectionately referred to as Kaka. He passed away on the 18th of July 2012. I remember being shocked to hear of his death – and even wrote an emotional post on my blog on the occasion. Although I did know that he had been suffering from cancer, the news hit me hard. Today, it is already 6 years since his death. How time flies!

The lion’s share of the congratulations for this celebration goes to Atul ji, for starting and sustaining this blog, and words cannot describe our gratitude for that. I have just finished noting down lyrics of the song I have chosen – it has taken me one hour at least. I have listened to the song close to 4-5 times. I had to listen to some parts again and again trying to figure out what the singer was saying, revise my lyrics and note down which portions were sung by the male or female singer and which was sung by them both. I do this only once in a while, not being the owner of the blog but an occasional participant. It made me appreciate more and more the amount of dedication the usual writers put in. To combine all this with a write up to explain the song, add anecdotes related to the song and sometimes, stories that led to the song is all hard work, believe me. In this age and time of quick fixes, short cuts, bullet points and shortened attention spans it is difficult to even understand this kind of dedication.

I started to write this post, because of my fascination (or is it obsession?) about the music of this movie. Finally for the anniversary occasion, I thought, let me write about this movie, “koi toh kissi din is film ke gaane ke baare mein likhega, main hi kyon na likh daloon???” 🙂 .Ye soch ke and also for the reason that I love the Raj Khosla type of narrative and his song picturization style.

Time has the notorious habit of sometimes standing still and at other times simply flying by. It is a really momentous occasion that our beloved blog is completing one decade! Sometimes feels like just yesterday when one ended up on the blog in search of a song. The hard work and dedication put in by Atul ji with able support by Sudhir ji and our other atulites has probably been unparalleled in music related documentation and archiving. Many long forgotten songs and artists have been granted a new audience thanks to this wonderful blog of ours. The hard work being done is really appreciable and every bit of the applause that can be given is too small compared to the single minded effort being put into making the blog even better day by day.
