One of the earliest articles in the blog that gave me immense satisfaction was the article on the song “Din hai suhaana aaj pehli taareekh hai”. This song, that brings back nostalgia big time for people growing up in 1960s and 1970s is from “Pahli Taareekh” (1954) and it was played on Radio Ceylon (later SLBC) on the first day of every month. Listening to this song on the first day of every month in the “puraani filmon ke geet” programme was a divine experience. One needed to live in that era to savour it. Those who could never savour it because they were not born then, I can only say-tough luck. Better luck next time. 🙂

I fondly remember my radio playing this song during the afternoons of my summer vacations (in our old rented house, and in the morning Radio farmaish programmes and during the late night, 11`clock Mumbai Vividh bharati programme “Bela ke phool”. This song belongs to my growing years; therefore I do have many fond memories of this song . Though it was not that badly picturised, the listening pleasure is more than that of watching it. If one hears this duet, in my personal opinion, it does have soothing effect on listeners.

Pradeep Raghunathan discovered the blog on 11 march 2011 and he found himself instantly hooked to the blog. He began to spend considerable time on the blog. In the process he had a great deal of interaction with me, mostly on gmail, including its chatting. We have interacted online more than a hundred times , and two of these interaction sessions lasted over two hours each.

Wonderful site. A very useful & handy reference tool, too. I browse it regularly for my dose of golden oldies, rare gems, lyrics, song info or just to surprise myself. The days of yore studded with glittering jewels such as Radio Ceylon/SLBC & Vividh are sorely missed.
One thing that I notice & love about your blog is the painstaking indexing & categorisation of the content & the accuracy of material, esp. lyrics. Generally, the lyrics are free from errors, authentic and spelled brilliantly. Only a person of language can do such justice to transliterating hindi into english with admirable precision & exactness.
I’m sure you devote a considerable amount of time to build up and maintain this blog. As I do consult this blog from time to time, to repay the favour and as a token of my gratitude, I would like to offer my assistance in keeping this blog ticking over. “Samundari Daaku” (1956) was directed by A R Zameendaar for Cine Art Pictures. This obscure movie had Nasir Khan, Nadira, Kumkum, Johnny Walker, Iftekhar, Indu Paul etc in it.

“Laakhon Mein Ek” (1971) was directed by S S Balan. The movie had Mehmood, Radha,Shubha Khote, Ramesh Deo, Pran, Aruna Irani, Kanhaiyalal, Lalita Pawar, David, Nazir Hussain and a long list of comedians in it.
