Today’s drunkard song is from the movie ‘Mawaali-1983’.
‘Mawaali-1983’ was directed by K. Bapaiyya for ‘Padmalaya Studios, Madras’. G. Hanumantha Rao was the producer of this ‘social’ movie passed by Censor Board on 28.10.1983.
By this time in 1983 I was studying in Std-XI with ‘PCM+ Vocational Subjects’. But, I was more interested in cricket and Rajesh Khanna movies than in my studies. But even then I had not watched this movie ‘Mawaali-1983’. I was averse to these Jeetendra movies coming from South directors except ‘Himmatwaalaa’ (since it was a first of its kind and discussed a lot then), ‘Tohfaa’ and ‘Maqsad’. ‘Tohfaa’ had some good songs and I watched it with many interested family members who had assigned me the task of booking the tickets for this movie.

Previous blog century (20300th song post) appeared on 30 May 2026. 29 days later, we reach the next blog century viz blog post number 20400.
It appeared like we reached the coveted summit of song post 20000 just recently. And now we havealready added another 400 songs to our tally.
In case of the previous century, the century song was identifed in advance. Here in this case, I decided on the song last evening, but when I looked at the songs that preceded the century song, I decided that the century song needed to sound as good as the songs that preceded it early in the day. So I have picked a song that I had earlier earmarked for some other special occasion. I decided that a century post is as special an occasion as any for that song.
This song is from “Apne Paraaye”(1980). This movie in a way is a throwback to those days of yore when story of the movie was taken from a novel written by an eminent littérateur and the movie made on the story would be faithful to the story line contained in the literary masterpiece.
“Apne Paraaye”(1980) was based on a Bengali novel, ‘Nishkriti’ (1917) by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay needs no introduction, of course. His stories have been made into a large number of well known movies in several languages. His story of “Devdas” itself has been made into over 20 movies in various languages, four of them being in Hindi alone.

My 200th post
So, with this post I complete 200 song posts on Atul Song A Day blogpost. This activity gives me immense pleasure at this point in life where one tends to take things little lightly. The first 50 posts were posted in roughly 8-10 years time, but the rest of them have been posted in the last 4-5 years. The first 8-10 years period was the time when I worked full time and would work till late almost everyday. Then, during the weekend it was completely family time. So to find time in such a busy schedule was very difficult. Plus, I had 4-5 surgeries on my feet, specifically from 2017 onwards.
But the last few years have been a bit easier in that I have stopped working full time and have taken a part time position which is located remotely and suits my timing and lifestyle. Therefore, the pace of writing posts has increased.
The 100th song I posted was sung by the legend Lata Mangeshkar. So my 200th song is also sung by another legend – Kishore Kumar.

I was aware of many drunkard songs that are already covered in the blog from my radio listening and music collection days, but I was not aware that there were such a large number of these songs in Hindi films.
I have mentioned it several times that one of the reasons for me to like these songs was that they contained some high class poetry 😊 . The protagonist of these songs would often wax lyrical about philosophy of life. The protagonist would look cheerful while drunk, no matter he put others around him in embarrassing situation.😊

‘Ishq Ishq Ishq-1974’ was directed by Dev Anand for his home productions ‘Navketan International Films Pvt Ltd, Bombay’. It was a ‘social movie’ passed by the Censor Board on 08.11.1974. I was more than six years old when this movie was released. However, I have no recollections of watching this movie at that time. I did not get to watch this movie even later. This movie is available online and I may watch it there in future. However, our dear Satyajit jee has watched this movie and he has given the story of this movie as follows:-

‘Sitamgar’ (1985) was produced by Bikram Singh Dehal and was directed by Raj N Sippy. The cast included Dharmendra, Parveen Babi, Rishi Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Shreeram Lagoo, Prem Chopra, Jagdish Raj, Ranvir Raj, Master Alankar, Baby Geeta, Azaad etc. Sonia Sahni, Sudhir and Narendranath made their special appearances in the film. Producer Bikram Singh Dehal is the brother-in-law of Dharmendra having married to his elder sister. He has produced six films including the film under discussion and in all his films, Dharmendra or Sunny Deol had main roles.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Five Rifles-1974’. I had presented a song from this movie on the blog long time back.
This is a special movie from my childhood days for people of my age group. I was just above six years old when this movie was released. I must have watched this movie with my parents or elders in the family.
The two things that stayed in my mind from this movie were monkeys with rifles and the iconic qawwaalee in the mesmerizing voice of Aziz Nazan. I also recall reading about this film that look-alikes of Rajesh Khanna and Shashi Kapoor were used in this film.
