(#Music Composer-Singer-Bappi Lahiri#9 – The magic of Bappi Da & Kishore Kumar)
Today’s song is another Bappi Da-Kishore Kumar song which I like very much since the release of its movie. I had not watched this movie and over the years I only remember this song and one other song of this movie which is ‘naina ye barse, milne ko tarse’ which too I like very much. However I had always thought these songs as the compositions of Laxmikant-Pyarelal. It was only when I noted down the lyrics of this song for presentation that I came to know that it was a composition of Bappi Lahiri and not Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Today 16th November 2022 is the one hundred and fifth birth anniversary of Chitragupt Shrivastava (born on 16.11.1917 and passed away on 14.01.1991). He is better known by his name Chitragupt.
Music director Chitragupt had a long journey in Hindi Film Music since 1946 to 1988 (as per information available). However some sources mentions ‘Chandaal-1998’ as his last film where he is credited with one song. This needs to be checked and authenticated. The titles of this movie don’t mention his name as a music director. (His sons Anand-Milind composed music for this movie.).

Today’s song is another Kishore Kumar song which I came across recently, on 7th of October 2022 to be exact, when I listened to it on radio (Vividh Bharati). That day was the birthday of Music Director Usha Khanna (born on 07.10.1941).
(She turned eighty-one this 7th October 2022 ).

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2012-2022) – Song No. 127
————————————————————————————–
Ten years back on this date viz on 10 November 2012, seven songs from seven movies were covered on the blog. Here are the details:-
| Blog post number | Song | Movie (Year) | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6976 | Mere liye wo gham e intezaar chhod gaye | Anokha Pyaar(1948) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 6977 | Maangi hain duaayen hamne sanam | Shikaari (1963) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 6978 | Kisi par jaan dete hain | Jhuk Gaya Aasmaan(1968) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 6979 | Raam prabhu aadhaar jagat ke | Sant Tulsidas (1972) | 2 songs covered out of 8 by now |
| 6980 | Chaandni khil rahi ho | Ham Rahe Na Ham (1984) | One song covered out of 6 by now |

| 6982 | Aisa lagta hai jo na hua hone ko hai | Refugee (2000) | 2 songs covered out of 8 by now |

This 13th October I could not sent a Kishore Kumar song on his remembrance day. But I listened to the special programs on Vividh Bharati on Kishore Kumar that day, and also special program on Ashok Kumar too.
There is not a single day when we do not hear a Kishore Kumar song on radio. I also browsed some Kishore Kumar songs on YouTube in recent days and watched them, and also come across few songs which I had not watched or listened before and so do not remembered them.

Hullo Atuldom
Todays’ song is from a forgotten movie of the late 1970s “Bagula Bhagat” (1979). It was directed by Harmesh Malhotra and produced by Gullu Sippy. It had a cast of Ashok Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha, Shabana Azmi, Kamini Kaushal, Padma Khanna, Mehmood Jr. etc. I think I saw a short video of the movie online somewhere and think I spied Anwar Hussain and Goga Kapoor as his henchman. It had music by Kalyanji Anandji and songs written by Anjaan. Kishore Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor, Amit Kumar and Asha Bhonsle as playback singers. The movie was written by Subhash Ghai and Bhalla.

Hullo Atuldom
Top three actors of the golden era of Hindi cinema (from mid 1940s to late 1960s) were Dilip-Dev-Raj. They were nearly of the same age though their debut years were “Jwar Bhata” (Dilip Kumar) in 1944, “Hum Ek Hain” which came in 1946 (Dev Anand) and “Valmiki” also in 1946 which had Raj Kapoor in his first adult role but it was a tiny role. The three of them carved their own path and were the dominant stars of the Golden Era. Raj Kapoor went on to become a much-acclaimed actor-director earning him the title of ‘The greatest Showman’, Dev Anand also became an actor-director and was usually associated with slick and stylish city-based films and became popular for his trendy fashion sense as well, and Dilip Kumar came to be hailed as the greatest actor and set a high bar for future generations to emulate.

Music is an irresistible thing. It energizes the soul and is a great stress buster. Indian film music especially is very enchanting and melodious to listen.
Years back, during the age of black and white movies, there was not much variety in music. If you listen to old Hindi songs, you will find almost the same beats. The music was simple, yet it was very melodious. Singers like Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Lata and Asha were simply outstanding and still their magic is alive.

I first met him on screen in 1971. The film was ‘Mere Apne’, a story of a destitute old lady fallen on to hard times, intersecting with gang wars between young street smarts. I had heard his name before. In 1968, when Sunil Dutt launched his younger brother Som Dutt via his home production ‘Man Ka Meet’, one also read in the news that another new face was being introduced – name Vinod Khanna.
