There were days in the past when I used to make sure that I covered one song from a debutant movie and another song that was the final song of the movie (in other words, the movie got YIPPEED with that song). That was part of my new year resolution of 2018. On that year I managed to stick to the resloution of one debutant movie daily upto 28 April 2018 ( with four days break on 29 January, 8 april, 20 april, 27 april). The resolution of one YIPPEED movie every day lasted till 24 April 2018 (with break of three days for YIPPEE songs-22 January, 20 April and 22 April). Following the new year resolution for nearly four months must be considered a heroic performance seeing how most new resolutions die out in less than a week. 🙂

In this year 2026, I have made rather feeble resolutions. With over 5100 movies already represented in the blog, there was not much scope left for covering one debutant movie every day. If some movies are still making debuts on the blog, it is thanks to the contributions of some enthusiastic guest contributors.

My tribute to the Greatest singer ever – Lata Mangeshkar

I’m delayed by a couple of days to give my shradhanjali to the great departed soul, Lata Mangeshkar. Voices like hers don’t belong to a single era; they belong to eternity. Her melodies will continue to echo in our hearts forever.

For over seven decades, her voice floated through radios, cinema halls, wedding stages, lonely train journeys, and quiet midnight moments. It was the sound of first love, of longing, of devotion, of patriotism, of heartbreak that was beautiful rather than bitter. When Lata ji sang, emotions didn’t feel performed — they felt remembered.

There was something almost otherworldly about her voice. Crystal-clear yet deeply human, delicate yet unwavering, it could carry the innocence of a young girl, the grace of a devoted lover, or the quiet strength of a woman who had endured life’s storms.

Hullo Atuldom

It has been four years today, to the date to be exact, since the lovers of Indian music lost their beloved Lata Mangeshkar. When I say Indian music I mean Bhav-geet, Film Sangeet, Bhajans and any other genres that we can think of. Lata Didi, as she was addressed by the multitude of her followers, was the go-to voice (a modern day term for first choice) of all music composers across generations. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was the that one heard on waking up through the various bhajans played in the morning hours. If the listener was a fan of Hindi film songs then it would be any song from ‘jyothi kalash chhalke’, ‘jaago mohan pyaare’, almost all the songs of Raj Kapoor’s ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ (if one is of the newer generation) or any of the numerous bhajans that exist in the non-film category.
