Hullo Atuldom
4th august 2018 marks the 89th birth anniversary of our beloved Kishore Kumar. 89- oh my god! How I wish Kishoreda had been around. The programme content of all TV or Radio channels would have gone overboard playing wonderful Kishore Kumar songs. And not only ones till 1988/89 (when the songs of “Mamta Ki Chaon Mein” were released) but we -his fans- would have had a lot more songs in Kishoreda’s voice.

“Yaarana” was a movie that was released in 1981. It was produced by H A Nadiadwala and directed by Rakesh Kumar. It had Amitabh Bachchan and Amjad Khan playing friends whose friendship was rooted in childhood. The story showed the love and affection between the two who were from different financial backgrounds. They would go to any extent to make each other’s lives comfortable.

I started to write this post, because of my fascination (or is it obsession?) about the music of this movie. Finally for the anniversary occasion, I thought, let me write about this movie, “koi toh kissi din is film ke gaane ke baare mein likhega, main hi kyon na likh daloon???” 🙂 .Ye soch ke and also for the reason that I love the Raj Khosla type of narrative and his song picturization style.

The Hindi movie music has undergone changes with time. It is seen that the music style of the dominant music director of the era is ofter copied by other music directors. For instance, there were occasions when Madan Mohan, Roshan etc copied the music style of O P Nayyar, whereas Kalyanji Anandji’s music sounded like Shankar Jaikishan during late 1950s to mid 1960s. Music directors copied the music style of R D Burman during 1970s.

Hullo Atuldom
I know of two movies that go by the name ‘Duniya’. One was in 1968 which had Dev Anand and Vyjayantimala in the lead and the second ‘Duniya’ (1984) had Dev Anand’s contemporary Dilip Kumar with Ashok Kumar in central roles around which Rishi Kapoor and Amrita Singh’s characters were built.
