“Aap Se Humko Bichhde Huye, Ek Zamaana Beet Gaya” – a classic from the 1969 film ‘Vishwaas’. Interesting story behind this song. Kalyanji Anandji had composed this song to be sung by Mukesh. On the day of the recording, for some reason, Mukesh could not be present. Kalyanji Anandji, for the sake of utilizing the recording session, decided to record the song anyway, in another voice. The song was supposed to be re-recorded when Mukesh would be available again for recording. Later, when re-recording was being discussed with Mukesh, he happened to listen to the song that was already recorded. So impressed was he with the voice and the rendering of this specific song, he insisted that the song be retained and included in the film as recorded. Thus was launched the singing career of a mechanical engineering graduate, who had come to Bombay initially, not to become a singer.
Wishing Manhar Udhas many happy returns of his birthday (13th May).

Today, the 27th of April, is the death anniversary of Feroz Khan.
It feels like only the other day that Feroz passed away – the memory (and shock) of that day is still fresh in my mind. But, when I checked the year just now, I see it was in 2009. So it’s already 6 years since Feroz left us. How time flies!

Today (23 october 2014) is the festival of deepaawali. This festival is supposed to bring joy and happiness in the lives of everyone. I can certainly vouch for that. My main computer that has been hijacked by my wife for the last few days was surprisingly available to me this morning. I wake up earlier than others on the pretext of letting the dog out and teaching the daughter. The dogs were wide awake as usual but my daughter (and wife) are not (as usual). That gave me the opportunity of sitting on my main computer and try and give finishing touch to the posts for the day.

I fondly remember my radio playing this song during the afternoons of my summer vacations (in our old rented house, and in the morning Radio farmaish programmes and during the late night, 11`clock Mumbai Vividh bharati programme “Bela ke phool”. This song belongs to my growing years; therefore I do have many fond memories of this song . Though it was not that badly picturised, the listening pleasure is more than that of watching it. If one hears this duet, in my personal opinion, it does have soothing effect on listeners.

The first solo song that Kishore Kumar sang in his playback career was for Dev Anand in the movie “Ziddi” (1948) under the music direction of Khemchand Prakash. Then S D Burman, his mentor used his good offices to get Kishore Kumar to give plaback for Raj Kapoor in “Pyaar” (1950). But from that time onwards, Kishore Kumar sang for himself or for Dev Anand, in case it was a Dev Anand movie with S D Burman’s music direction. I can think of one more exception during 1950s though where Kishore Kumar sang for someone other than himself or Dev Anand. It was the iconic song Din hai suhaana aaj pahli taarikh hai(Pahli taarikh) (1954) which was picturised on Raja Nene.
