wo chaand hai to aks bhi paani mein aayegaa
kirdaar khud ubhar ke kahaani mein aayegaa
(Iqbal Sajid)

Aks – reflection
Kirdaar – character

“jis ke paas koyi saboot nahin hota, kya wo kabhi beqasoor nahi ho sakta.”

This is the dialogue spoken by Meenakshi Sheshadri to Anil Kapoor, a lawyer, when he has refused to take her sister’s Beena’s case.  Meenakshi’s sister is a doctor and a patient dies in her private clinic, after she has administered a medicine to the patient. The medicine contains poison, and the bottle is already in the custody of the courts/police. There is no way anyone can prove that the patient did not die because of the medicine in that bottle. So all the lawyers are refusing the case and Meenakshi and the brother in law Parikshit Sahani, also a doctor, are running from pillar to post to find a lawyer who can defend Beena in the court.

Hullo to all in Atuldom

Only yesterday I saw a rather old episode of the TALK SHOW – back then they used to call it interview (simple)- “Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan” which Tabassum used to host. I am sure all movie/ music lovers would have seen at least one episode on Friday evenings (I think). I used to try and see it without fail. But the episode (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFFwOfs1IWw) I saw yesterday on YouTube I don’t recollect having seen in 1983. Just as well since; when I saw it yesterday it was an eye opener. It featured Anand Bakshi the lyricist.

‘Hero’(1983) was produced and directed by Subhash Ghai for Mukta Arts Limited, Bombay. Introducing newcomer pairs in lead roles was the in thing those day. It had started with ‘Bobby’(1973), which was followed by ‘Love Story’(1980), ‘Rocky’(1981) and then ‘Betaab’(1983).

Hullo to all in Atuldom

So now we are all busy discussing the pros and cons of the demonetisation on our WhatsApp group. We are also having a fair number of jokes on the subject. But as our dear thandapani mentioned last week when our PM dropped the demonetisation bomb (as I like to call it) I have also decided to wait and watch for the rush at the banks and cash ATMs. At such a time a few songs ran through my mind. Let us have one of them today.

Hullo to all at Atuldom

The rains always send me down memory lane. Whether it is the June to September cycle of the Indian monsoon or the unexpected rains that happen in the connection with the low pressures in the Bay Of Bengal sometime during October – November. Now going back to my school days, I remember that it is all geographical phenomena that brings rain in oct- Nov. but the June rains have more memories attached to them than the winter rains. Our schools used to reopen post summer vacations in June. And the rainy season; as we in Mumbai knew it; would promptly arrive in the second week of June with heavy downpours, water logging and forced closure of schools giving us additional holidays. (Yes; that was common even thirty years ago as it is today when all and sundry cry foul about the bad drainages.)

Raksha bandhan comes in the festive month of Shravan. This year it is on 29th August 2015. Wishing all a very Happy Raksha Bandhan.

This is the eighth time we are celebrating it on our blog. Does that mean we have run out of Raksha Bandhan songs to be posted? Actually if we take a look at the list on the right side of our blog –the list which breaks up the blog category wise— we find 21 Rakhi songs have been posted beginning with the all-time universal favourite “Bhaiyya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Ko Nibhana” from the 1959 “Chhoti Behan”. The last song in this category was in 2013 by Sudhirji “pardesi ho humse rakhiya bandha” from a 1944 movie.

In continuation to my post for ‘apne haathon ko pehchaan’ :
There is this bhajan/song which is more a philosophical song from 1989 movie ‘ Bade ghar ki Beti ‘.

Actually it is based on a Meera bhajan, but improvised by the lyricist Santosh Anand and composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Once heard never forgotten kind of song, with its simple words and simple philosophy of contentment and containment.
