EID MUBARAK to all our readers, wherever they are on this Globe. Today is a Happy day for the celebrations.
Having grown up in HYDERABAD-the Muslim state of the Nizam- in the 40s,( Hyderabad was annexed to India in 1948,after Patel’s ‘Police Action’), I have very fond memories of Eid. Though Hyderabad merged with India, It was an independent state till 1-11-1956, therefore the Muslim customs, manners, festivals, education and Eating habits continued to have a major influence on Hyderabad public. (In Nov 1956, Hyderabad was Trifurcated. 5 districts of Marathwada merged with Bombay state, 3 Kannada speaking districts merged with Karnataka and remaining 8 Telugu speaking districts merged into the newly formed Andhra Pradesh.( and again now these 8 districts are separating from Andhra Pradesh to form Telangana State !).

This is a sequel to the Bachpan ka incident that I related the last time. My dear Peevesie reminded me of this and urged me to relate it also. It is a sweet memory which is referred to by my dad to her every time the song or scene of a particular movie comes on TV. And then we all have a good time thinking of those days.

Since this blog has much to do with nostalgia, I too sometimes (often) go back into the past of the blog and go through old posts of the blog. On quite a few occasions, I am myself surprised to find the contents of articlea that I had myself written. These days I no longer find time to delve deep into each individual songs and offer comments on the songs. Thoroughly exploring each and every song was a luxury that I could afford four years ago when the blog was truly one song a day blog. 🙂

“Deewaar” (1975) must be regarded as one of the most influential movies of its time. Unlike most Hindi movies, the music of this movie only had a marginal role to play in the success of the movie. In fact no song of this movie figured in the Binaca geetmala finals.

“Zehreela Insaan”(1974), Rishi Kapoor’s second release flopped badly at the box-office. Prakashchandra, a dedicated contributor to this blog, has commented on it here. This film was also the first one to have Rishi-Neetu pairing. Rishi Kapoor has two heroines to romance in this film. The first is Moushumi Chatterjee, whose father marries her off to somebody else. His sadness at the loss is short, he meets another girl at his college with whom he falls in love with. The song yeh silsila pyaar se chalaa marks the beginning of this tempestuous love story.

A few days back on the occasion of Amitabh and Rekha’s birthday I spoke of how famous or popular or well received their pairing was in Bollywood movies. There were other such equally popular jodis. Viz. Rishi Kapoor- Neetu Singh, Vinod Mehra- Moushmi Chaterjee, Rajesh Khanna with Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna with Mumtaz, Rajesh Khanna with Asha Parekh etc in my growing up years. Actually I thought that Jaya Bhaduri never made a geat pair on screen with Amitabh, I liked her more with Sanjeev Kumar or even Jeetendra. There were popular pairing in the previous generation of stars too. But I think we have more knowledgeable people in our group to list them. Now what made a pairing popular was how well they looked together or how had their movie fared at the box office or how much recall value their songs had.
