Hullo to all in Atuldom

Wishing all a very Happy 70th INDEPENDENCE DAY. We step into our 71st year of Independence.

As children, we have been inculcated with a sense of patriotism. My school had a practice of hoisting the National Flag at a particular hour. Later in my life I was given to understand that this practise is governed by the hour the flag is hoisted in the nation’s capital Delhi- it seems that the flag has to be hoisted first in Delhi at the Red Fort and then the nation follows. I would love to know if what I learnt is right or wrong.

Mukesh and his Composers – 14
——————————————–

As we celebrate seven decades of freedom, patriotic songs continue to eulogize the glories of our nation. These songs have always had a special place in the hearts of all Indians. During the good old days of DD, many such songs were played throughout the day on such occasions. One of the very common songs that was invariably played was the Mukesh number “Chhodo Kal Ki Baaten” from the film ‘Hum Hindustani’ (1960). Coming from the baton of Usha Khanna in her second film as a composer, the song was sung with much gusto by Mukesh. The other famous song by Mukesh in this genre is obviously the title song from ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai’ (1960).

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY to all our readers. May the 70th Anniversary of India’s Independence bring happiness, prosperity and peace to people of this great nation.

On this occasion, I present to you a Marching Patriotic song, in praise of the Motherland, from the film ‘Sipahsalaar’ (1956). Sipahsalaar means Chief of Army or Commandant . The name of this film is not well known because the lead actor, the composer or the director were not famous at that time. I said ‘ that time ‘ because in the next one year, this film’s hero – Shammi Kapoor would come in a complete makeover of appearance (without his funny unbecoming moustache) and style of acting with the film ‘Tumsa Nahin Dekha’ (1957). Later on, he wrote a glorious chapter in the history of Indian cinema.

Today’s Shiv Bhajan is for the 4th Shraavan Monday – as celebrated in south, west and some eastern states of India. This bhajan is from film ‘Shuk Rambha’ (1953), made by Chandrakala Pictures and is produced and directed by Dhirubhai Desai. The lead actors were Anjali Devi (from south) and Bharat Bhushan. In the cast of this film, you will find a name Rajkumar. Most ‘knowledgeable’ sites and writers treat this actor same as the famous dialogue master Raaj Kumar ‘Jaani’. However, this is not correct. This Rajkumar is different.

Yesterday, 13th August was the birthday of Vijayantimala, as she turns 81.

For this celebration, here is a wonderful song performed by her, from the film ‘Phoolon Ki Sej’ (1964). The film is from the banner of Anjali Pictures of Madras, and is produced by Adi Narayan Rao. The film is directed by Inder Raj Anand. The songs in this film are written by Hasrat Jaipuri, and the music is by Adi Narayan Rao. The screenplay of this film is adapted by Inder Raj Anand, from one of the popular novels of Gulshan Nanda – ‘Andhere Chiraagh’.

Today, 13th August is the birthday of Sridevi, as she turns 54.

For this celebration, here is a wonderful dance song performed by her, from the film ‘Jaag Utha Insaan’ (1984). The setting for the song is a stage performance, likely at a religious function. On stage, Sridevi is accompanied by Mithun Chaktravarty playing the flute and Beena signing the vocals. We also see Sudhir Dalvi, sitting next to Beena. In the audience we can see Yunus Parvez, sitting in the chair right up front, Sujeet Kumar and Kaanan Kaushal sitting  in the audience, Rakesh Roshan and Deven Verma, standing at the back, with Somayaajulu making an entry, while the program is in progress.

Jaidev Ki Non-Filmi Suraavali – 03
—————————————————-

When I look, with wide eyes, at my ‘Khjaana’ of Jaidev-ji’s Non-Film songs, I am confused about how to do my presentation of this series to our esteemed audience.  Should I take one artist serially or various artists at random? After an hour or so, of that internal fight, when I played one bhajan by Chhaaya Ganguly, it was easy to decide to present all HER songs serially.  Now with that internal fight over and with a clearer mind, I will write about this bhajan.

Saga Of Sleepless Nights -1
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

oo oo. . neend na mujh ko aaye,
dil mera ghabraaye
chup ke chup ke, koyi aa ke,
soyaa pyaar jagaaye

There must have been an age, a time in life, a passage of emotional intensities, when you may have spend a few (or maybe many) sleepless nights – thinking, waiting, contemplating. Yes, they visit us all, the nights of the wide open eyes, when a cloudy sky is an irritating bore – for if the skies were clear, at least you would be able to start counting the stars.

The month of ‘August’ holds a very special place in our hearts. We celebrate our Independence Day on the Fifteenth day of this month every year since 1947.

In 1942 the ‘Quit India Movement’ or the ‘Bharat Chhodo Andolan’ was launched on 8th August’1942 and Gandhi ji gave a call of ‘Do or Die’. Starting 9th Aug’1942 in the next few days the whole nation witnessed the greatest uprising against the British. Today (9 august 2017) is the 75th anniversary of that important date.

Jaidev Ki Non-Filmi Suraavali – 02
—————————————————-

I missed the birth anniversary of my dear Jaidev ji (3rd Aug), by not presenting a tribute to him. I also regretfully observed that same day on our blog, under to flood of songs of ‘KK’ by his fans, NO Atulite remembered Jaidev ji.
