Hullo Atuldom

June 22nd 1965, a young ‘approximately’ 18 year old girl, from a small town in Andhra Pradesh, got married and relocated to the metropolitan city called Bombay. After about 23 years, another young girl ‘approximately’ 22 years old, from Bombay got married & relocated to an ‘even more’ small (i.e. smaller than the Andhra Pradesh town mentioned in the opening sentence) town in Tamil Nadu. I mean a case of ‘ulti Ganga’. But we shall not talk of the second girl in this post, the subject of this post is the first girl.

Wishing our guiding force; ex-Ranchiwala now-Bhopali Gaanewala, usually addressed as Atulji by the followers of ASAD (acronym for atulsongaday) A Very Happy Birthday. I thank him (as always) for providing us this platform where “birds of a feather flock together”. What started as a place for one post (not necessarily one song though, as some posts contain all versions of a song) a day had become a multi-post per day blog after the initial few months of its journey. May today and all of your days be creative and innovative.

There have been a few incidents in recent times that highlight the Unpredictable Nature of life. There are ‘n’-number of whatsapp forwards that bring this to our notice.
The first one I received said this

“Life is so unpredictable..
You go for a vacation, and terrorists shoot you.
You go to a trophy parade and it ends in a stampede.
You go in a flight for work/vacation, and it crashes.
You are studying in your hostel, and the plane falls on you.”

Some one added
“You go on a honeymoon and are murdered “

Wishing our in-house Encyclopedia, whom I love to address as GURUJI, otherwise called Shri. Arunkumar Deshmukh a very Happy BirthdayEmojiEmoji. May he continue to enlighten us with his painstakingly researched knowledge about all things connected with Indian Films as a WHOLE. He loves South Indian films as well as Made-In-South films possibly because of having been in Hyderabad in his formative years.

May his zeal to write posts never dim. Posts, that have a definite content, form and buildup leading to the featured film, artists and songs contained in the film. Posts that are not necessarily about the golden oldies or the middle generation films. I like what he says, “it is not necessary that only old songs are melodious, there are good songs in the later decades too”.

“Sunny” (1984) was produced by Amarjeet (known for producing the classic ‘Hum Dono’ in 1961 & ‘Gambler’ in 1971) with Bobby Tapia (Amarjeet’s brother) as co-producer. Raj Khosla was the director (I am sure I need not list the movies this director had entertained us with). “Sunny” had music by R. D. Burman & Anand Bakshi was the lyricist. The playback singers used were Asha Bhonsle, Lata Mangeshkar, Suresh Wadkar and Anand Kumar C.

Hullo Atuldom

This is not planned as a “Blog Ten Year Challenge” post. It has just happened to be one.

Actually, I was humming a song most of yesterday, visited the blog to check if it had been posted yet and found a song from the same film had been posted exactly 10 years ago. I went a step further and found that there were 3 posts on “this date, that year”. Two of the three posts were by Sudhir ji; one post being his down-memory-lane of the Mumbai- Gangout that had a few Atulites meet in December of 2014. The post by Sudhir ji for the song “Boribunder Se Borivali Dekh Li Maine Gali Gali” was much more than a report of the gangout & the visit to Arunkumar Deshmukh ji’s residence by Atulites. It was also a nostalgia trip for readers who know of the various localities that he has mentioned in the post. I particularly like the (now invisible Atulite) Khyati Ben’s comment to the post. That post had Sudhir ji, talking of how he had stayed across the road from Arunkumarji’s residence, back in the late 1980s; but they were unaware of each other’s existence then, prompting (another invisible Atulite) Raja ji’s comment of how the post could well be the story of a Manmohan Desai film.

He has also sung a number of notable songs in 10+ languages including Marathi, Sinhala, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Odia, Bengali, Sanskrit, Gujarati and English. Today’s post by Sadanandji has triggered this post. The song in his post was ‘inspired’ by a Sinhalese pop song of the seventies, which most of us have heard and I am sure have sung with ‘our own made-up-lyrics’.
Over the last few months, the social media platform Facebook, has been carrying a countdown of sorts. The countdown ended on 2nd March. The countdown was being posted by some fans of a CULT FILM that had the title “THE SOUND OF MUSIC”. What was special about 2nd March? Any guesses?

“Paayal Ki Jhankaar” (1980) was a Rajshri Productions presentation, which was directed by Satyen Bose. It had a cast of Komal Mahuwakar (before this we had seen her in ‘Dream Girl’ as Baby Komal), Alankar (first role where he was not credited as Master Alankar), Surinder Kaur (I think this was her debut), Arun Kumar, Shail Chaturvedi, C.S. Dubey, Sudha Shivpuri, and a few more known & unknown faces who comprise the brigade of character artists in Hindi films.
