‘Dhongee’ (censor certificate 23-12-1976), was a movie directed by Ashok Roy and produced by Kant Kumar productions. It seems to have had a delayed release (Wikipedia says it was released 4th May 1979). It has a starcast of Randhir Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Asrani, Sujit Kumar, Farida Jalal, Iftikhar, and Premnath. Rakesh Roshan had a friendly appearance. The lyricist to this movie was Anand Bakshi and music director was Rahul Dev Burman. The movie had five songs and Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar and Amit Kumar were the playback singers. One song of this film – “Haaye Re Haaye Tera Ghunghta” – has been posted earlier, as a contribution by Pamir Harvey where a brief outline of the movie is provided. This song is popular to this day. I remember that sometime in the late 90s or early 2000 there was a remix version to this song which triggered the memory of this song. As I sat to write this post I discovered that there has been another version of this song which has been used in a recent movie titled ‘Paisa Vasool’ (2004) – I don’t know anything about this recent movie.

Hullo to all in Atuldom
The song with this post is the perfect candidate for the “how did I forget to post this song earlier?” category.
As of today (at the time of writing this) the blog is 3699 days young and 14618 posts strong. And we still keep finding songs popular during their time and afterwards too and say with surprise – Yeh gaana baaki hai? But then in the ocean of Bollywood songs & movies there are close to 1000 movies released each year with an average of about 4-5 songs in each of them. And in the 105-year history of Indian movies (all languages put together) Bollywood might account for just about 105000 and at the average of 4-5 songs per film we are seeing an ocean of 52500 songs only. All figures are approximate, not accurate at all. Given the kind of selection we have at our disposal there are bound to be songs which we would have previously thought that it is already present on the blog. So as has been said in many posts before this we are still at the bottom of the barrel that we need to fill or our bucket is still in the top rung of an ever-overflowing bottomless- well. So that should explain why this song is making its appearance only now! 🙂

“Priyatama”(1977) was produced by T C Dewan and directed by Basu Chatterji for Modern Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Neetu Singh, Jeetendra, Rakesh Roshan, Asha Sachdev, Utpal Dutt, Reeta Haksar, I.S.Johar, Ritu Kamal, Murad, Sunder, Latika, Roshni, Ajay Kumar, Asrani, Deven Verma, Asit Sen, Jaya Prabha etc in it.

This post will finally bring the ‘curtains down’ on the recent ‘Banglore – Gang out’ series. The memories of this ‘gang-out’ (and for me – of the visit to Bangalore) will remain with us forever though.
The post has been delayed, first for uploading of the image and then due to other occasional posts. It is now exactly a month for the gang out and already a new gang-out to be held at Mumbai is being eagerly looked forward to by regulars. Let us enjoy the memories of the Bangalaore gangout till then.

There was a very popular movie in our times… here I am considering the period of the late 70s when many of the followers of this blog were in high school or just out of school… no offence meant to the others in the blog. i know for a fact that even they would have enjoyed the movie I am talking of. ? “Jaani Dushman”(1979) was produced and directed by Rajkumar Kohli. The movie had received enormous publicity before its release. It was a multistarrer movie, though the stars who mattered to be those days, viz. Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Dharmendra did not figure in the movie. The movie had Sunil Dutt, Reena Roy, Jeetendra, Premnath, Shatrughan Sinha, Sanjeev Kumar, Rekha, Amrish Puri, Neetu Singh, Vinod Mehra, Bindiya Goswami, Sarika, Yogita Bali, Vikram, Aruna Irani, Raza Murad, Madan Puri, Sulochana, Shakti Kapoor, Paintal, Jagdeep, Roopesh Kumar, Shobhni Singh, JaiShree T, Indrani Mukherjee, Neeta Metha, Anwar Hussan, Sheetal, Aarti, Maruti, Mac Mohan, Rakesh Roshan, Neeta Mehta etc in it.

A look at her face (in the photos online), and it is difficult to believe that she is a grandmother of four years now. Her daughter, Riddhima, gave birth to a girl child in 2011. Rewinding further back, her wedding in 1980 to her frequent co-star Rishi Kapoor, seems like a news one read in the paper just a few weeks ago. At 57 today, her smile and the bright countenance belies her age.
Wishing a very happy birthday to Neetu Singh today (8th July).

The name Neetu Singh conjures up an image of a very bright and charming and ever smiling beauty. She started her life in Bollywood at a very young age – she was only 8 when we see her name appear as a child actor, in two 1966 films – ‘Suraj’ and ‘Dus Lakh’. However, the lasting memories are of her double role of twin sisters, separated on account of their parents’ discord, as Baby Sonia, in “Do Kaliyan” (1968). The image of a small child girl with double plaited hair [‘do choti’ sounds better, no? ;)] is still retained in our mind’s eye singing “Bachche Mann Ke Sachche” in Lata Mangeshkar’s voice.

With this song the film Dhongee (1976) makes its debut on this blog. I know only this song from this film and remember it from my childhood days, when it used to be played on the radio, on Vividh Bharati to be precise. The YT uploader has erroneously mentioned this movie as a release of 1979.
