Hullo to all Atulwaasis

I am hereby announcing my resignation from this group. And no; it is not because of anyone in the group being offensive or being offended by any post in the Whatsapp group of the regulars of this blog. It is just that I am unfit to be in this group.

I am sure I have everyone’s attention now. And everyone will be looking for an answer to the “Y” and what lead to my decision. Well for starters I felt that either I should leave the group or take ‘sanyaas’ from the blog. “WHY?”

Three years ago on this day, we had a song from the 1974 Balaji Arts’ “Kunwara Baap” in the blog. Today let us have one more song from the same movie. This is the song with which the movie opens and the movie titles roll on the screen as the song progresses.

This was a suspense movie starring Vinod Khanna, Vidya Sinha, Dr Shreeram Laagoo, Sadhu Meher, Amjad Khan, Helen, Lily Chakraborty, M Rajan, Ranjeeta Thakur, Sheetal, Bharat Kapur, Master Raju, Master Rajesh, Shekhar Purohit, Kamaldeep, Harish, Chandu, Pardesi, Chopra, Ranveer Raj, Siddharth, Ratna, Dharmaveer etc, with Rakesh Roshan and Keshto Mukherji in guest roles.

Rakesh Roshan, a struggling actor of his time turned a producer mainly because he was struggling to get roles in movies of other producers. The first movie of his production house called Filmkraft was “Aapke Deewaane”(1979). This movie flopped at the box office and that plunged Rakesh Roshan into serious financial troubles. He took great cares while proucing his next movie. He took a tried and tested story that had tasted box office success in another language and he sought to replicate that success in Hindi. The original movie was “Subhodayam”(1980), a Telugu movie which was remade into Hindi as “Kaamchor”(1982). K Vishwanath, who directed the Telugu original, directed the Hindi remake as well.

Its cast includes Asha Parekh, Jeetendra, Reena Roy, Om Shivpuri, Asrani, Dheeraj Kumar, Prema Narayan, Urmila Bhatt, Sayten Kappu, Manmohan Krishna, Manju Bansal, Pental, Dhumal, Raj Verma, Ashalata, Bhatnagar, Vikas Anand, Kanwar, Master Apurva, Dhanna, Renu, Jayshree T. It also had Rita Bhaduri and Kamal Kapoor in special appearance.

Deven Verma, the Actor-Comedienne-Producer-Director was 77 when he passed away last year. Unbelievable that it’s a whole year since then. How time flies but certain voids are never filled.

I still remember my school days when our cricket playing group used to meet every evening at the Colony recreation club. After going through the newspapers/ magazines in the library, we would hold discussions on various topics. Hindi films and their songs were naturally among the topics of discussions.

The discussions then were only in general terms and nowhere near as serious or detailed as the discussions on this blog now. We used to discuss the songs we liked and why we liked them, or songs that were popular and how one ranked them in order of our likings etc etc.
