Today 8th March, 2022 is the 101st birth anniversary of poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi (08.03.1921 – 25.10.1980).
As per statistics available he has written around 717 to 730 songs in Hindi Films. On our blog we have so far covered 704 songs penned by Sahir Ludhianvi. Around six to eight songs from the remaining songs seems to be difficult to find or they may not be available at all.

2022 is marching and we are into March.
There are many actresses who have graced the silver screen eversince the moving images have held the fantasy of audiences. Some of these ladies began their on-screen life as ‘heroines’, a term used to denote the main female protagonist or the romantic interest of the main male in the story that the movie is depicting. That means the actress will be playing Seetha to a Ram, Parvati to her Mahadev, Radha to her Kanhaiya etc. if the movie was a mythological. If the movie was historical then a Rani Padmini, Rani Lakshmibai etc would be the main protagonist and the lady playing these characters would be called the heroine of the movie. The other ladies gracing the movie- playing Sakhi (friend), Maa, Didi, Bhabhi or Manthara, Kaikeyi, or a nautch girl- would be called supporting actress. No story (whether in movies or novels or real-life) is complete without supporting characters.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2012-2022) – Song No. 21
————————————————————————————–
This date ten years ago (viz 20 February 2012) was a “normal” blog day. Normal blog days those days meant as many as 6, 7 or even more songs getting covered in a day. 🙂
Seven songs from seven different movies were discussed that day. Here are the details:-
| Blog post number | Song | Movie (Year) | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5486 | Chaandni aayi ban ke bahaar o saajna | Dulaari(1949) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 5487 | Ham tumhaare ho chuke hain | Rangeela Raja (1960) | 2 songs covered out of 8 so far |
| 5488 | Shiv Shankar bholey bhaaley | Har Har Mahadev (1950) | 6 songs covered out of 10 so far |
| 5489 | Tu mere pyaar ka phool hai | Dhool Ka Phool (1959) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 5490 | Aaj ki raat nahin shiqwe shikaayat ke liye | Dharmputra(1961) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 5491 | Aap ki baaten aap ki kasmen sab jhoothhe afsaane hain | Kaala Samundar(1962) | 4 songs covered out of 7 so far |
| 5492 | Bala se dil gaya mujhe tu mil gaya | Do Bhai (1961) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
While four movies whose songs were covered that day have since been YIPPEED, three of those movies are still unYIPPEED and so they are eligible for blog ten year challenge today (20 February 2022).

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 159 # Missing Films of 1972 – 07#
——————————————
We are celebrating fifty years of the decade 1971-1980 and currently going through the missing movies from the year 1972 alphabetically. In the previous post we had a song from the movie ‘Kaamna’ i.e. movie starting with alphabet ‘K’. Today we continue moving alphabetically still but jumping one ‘missing’ movie (without a ‘hint’ or ‘explanation’, but only for good reasons 😊) and stopping at the movie ‘Kundan’. I do not remember to have read about this movie earlier and anywhere other than HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980).

Today’s song is from a C grade film called Baghi Sardar (1956).
I remember once Atul ji had expressed his opinion that ‘many times the B and C grade films provide A grade music’. I tend to agree with his opinion on this issue. There are many examples of songs from costume, stunt, action and religious films which became very popular. Off hand I remember at least two songs. The first was “Zara Saamne To Aa O Chhaliye” from a religious film ‘Janam Janam Ke Phere’ (1957). It was sung by Lata and Rafi, written by Bharat Vyas and music was by SN Tripathi. This song not only became very popular, but it became the No. 1 song on Binaca Geet Mala for 4 weeks. The second was a Rafi song “Parwardigar e Aalam, Tera Hi Hai Sahara” from the film ‘Hatimtai’ (1956). There was another song also from this film”Jhoomti Hai Nazar Jhoomta Hai Pyaar” which too became very popular. This was a costume film.

Today’s song is from the film with a funny name- Pilpili Saheb-1954.
When I saw this film’s posters in Hyderabad in 1954 , I laughed at the title of the film. I thought that the film had to do something with the yellow colour ! None of my friends knew the meaning of this word. After intense discussion, we decided to go to our Hindi teacher-Mathur sir. He was from Allahabad and was a very jovial person. He treated the students with a lot of humour and gentle talk. So we did not feel any fear or awkwardness to ask him this question. Otherwise, in those days asking such questions to any teacher was a certain invitation to caning !

Hullo Atuldom
KJ Yesudas – the bridge between South Indian and North Indian songs. Classical – both Carnatic and Hindustani, Light Music, Bhajan, and film music have been enriched by this maestro who turns a year older, today the 10th of January. Some people are omnipresent in our lives – Yesudas is one of them. We have grown up hearing him sing “Gori Tera Gaaon Bada Pyaara“, “Kaa Karoon Sajani Aaye Na Baalam“, “Dil Ke Tukde Tukde Karke Muskura Ke Chal Diye“, “Koi Gaata Main So Jaata” and numerous other songs. And for his fans who also understand other languages “Mayechi Sauli” from ‘Nanand Bhavajay’ (1991), and a few songs in Bengali, Oriya, and a few international languages too. I am not listing his songs from South Indian films that will be on the personal playlists of his fans.
