Though I am not very good in remembering dates (especially important dates, you know which ones 🙂 ), I often get saved by someone or the other. I would almost forget the birthday of my wife but for the fact that we have a daughter who can never forget birthdays and who never fails to remind me of such dates.

Now this gets cosmopolitically interesting. She is from a Keralite family that settled in Mumbai about a century ago; herself she is born and brought up in Mumbai, got married to a gentleman from Tamilnadu (I think he won’t mind if we call him Peevesie’s Dad), and currently settled in Bangalore. (Maybe she can head a movement for national integration). Interestingly, today she is back in her hometown – Cochin, as this write up gets published. But that is just for a short weekend vacation, she assures me.

In the 70s Brij Sadanah directed a string of movies after his “Victoria No. 203” became a hit. Almost all his subsequent movies had Pran and Ashok Kumar in central roles with the hero himself being of secondary importance. All his movies had a whole lot of people running after gold or diamonds or khazaana. Then there would be at least one song in disguise.

A long time ago there was a song “Bachpan ke din bhula na dena” (Deedar 1951). Then there was “Bachpan ke din bhi kya din thhey” (Sujata 1959). Well we generally remember everything that happens in our life (good bad or ugly). But the good things of life we definitely do not forget and say “These are a few of my favourite things” (The Sound of Music – I only know the 1965 movie). Now all these movies mentioned above were before my time but the songs I have referred to from them are true to every one I suppose.

I had discussed it in the past that my dogs, especially Chhote, the younger one would run away from the home. Sometimes Bhhole, the senior of the two , would also run behind Chhote, mainly to accompany him.

The first solo song that Kishore Kumar sang in his playback career was for Dev Anand in the movie “Ziddi” (1948) under the music direction of Khemchand Prakash. Then S D Burman, his mentor used his good offices to get Kishore Kumar to give plaback for Raj Kapoor in “Pyaar” (1950). But from that time onwards, Kishore Kumar sang for himself or for Dev Anand, in case it was a Dev Anand movie with S D Burman’s music direction. I can think of one more exception during 1950s though where Kishore Kumar sang for someone other than himself or Dev Anand. It was the iconic song Din hai suhaana aaj pahli taarikh hai(Pahli taarikh) (1954) which was picturised on Raja Nene.
