A look at her face (in the photos online), and it is difficult to believe that she is a grandmother of four years now. Her daughter, Riddhima, gave birth to a girl child in 2011. Rewinding further back, her wedding in 1980 to her frequent co-star Rishi Kapoor, seems like a news one read in the paper just a few weeks ago. At 57 today, her smile and the bright countenance belies her age.
Wishing a very happy birthday to Neetu Singh today (8th July).

So what is so special about today? It is the birthday of an Atulite. And the wedding anniversary of another. For all this info we have to thank a third Atulite.
Ok I know that was a bit confusing. So here is wishing our Avey-of-Discard (if I may borrow Sudhirji’s code language) a very happy birthday. And thanks to our dejavu007 (another loan from a previous post of Sudhirji ;-)) so we were all activated when Shri. Dejavu007 wished Avey-of-Discard on whatsapp this morning. And promptly without batting an eyelid all of us copycats wished Avey-of-Discard a very Happy Birthday. (I am sure my fellow Atulwaasis won’t mind being called copycats as I was the lead copycat 🙂 ) And the gracious Avey-of-Discard (how about adding a ji to this code name, just a passing thought) gave us the info that it was another regular atulite’s wedding anniversary; that of the NeatInsider (oh I seem to be borrowing heavily today, hope this whole thing is free or today Sudhirji will become a lot richer due to the Byaaj I will have to pay for my borrowings 🙂 )

Though I am not very good in remembering dates (especially important dates, you know which ones 🙂 ), I often get saved by someone or the other. I would almost forget the birthday of my wife but for the fact that we have a daughter who can never forget birthdays and who never fails to remind me of such dates.

When I look back at my formative years (viz 1960s and 1970s), I find that my musical tastes at that time were quite different from what it is at present. Those were the days when I only liked new songs and scoffed at old songs. Old songs for me were any songs recorded before 1967 and composed by music directors of the generations older than that of R D Burman. It was during mid 1970s that I decided to try and like “old” songs. It was then that I discovered music directors of the earlier generation, viz O P Nayyar, C Ramchandra etc and forced myself to try and like their music, all the time comparing their music to R D Burman’s music and wondering why the older generation music directors cold not compose music like R D Burman. 🙂

In continuation to my post for ‘apne haathon ko pehchaan’ :
There is this bhajan/song which is more a philosophical song from 1989 movie ‘ Bade ghar ki Beti ‘.
Actually it is based on a Meera bhajan, but improvised by the lyricist Santosh Anand and composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Once heard never forgotten kind of song, with its simple words and simple philosophy of contentment and containment.

Assalaam u alaikum wa rehmatullahi wa barakatahu
Walaikum as salaam wa rehmatullahi wa barakatahu
First is the salutation for greeting and second is the reply. Both the greeting and reply mean ‘May Allah be with you and keep you safe and sound, with his mercy and bountiful blessings ‘. There are different pronunciation used all over the world by people of different regions and linguistic groups.

The song that I sent last time for posting was about calling the guy home for tea and meeting the girls’ parents. Now the song which I thought apt to follow the previous one is from the 1980- Subhash Ghai directed rebirth story “Karz”. Here in this song we have two 51 year olds Kishore da (god bless him for being an all round entertainer) and Lata didi (that’s what the entire film industry addresses her as) singing “that they are sixteen and seventeen” for a 28 year old Rishi Kapoor and 22 year old Tina Munim. What I find charming is the song in its entirety viz. the picturization, the lyrics, the music, the singing and the acting. I simply admire it.
