#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #

Today I am presenting a lesser heard melodious duet from an unreleased movie ‘Rani Chandravati-1960s’. It is a nice melodious song suitable to be heard at late night (viz fitting the category of chitrahaar song).
HFGK Vol-IV (1961-1970)mentions this movie under the section of Un-Released movies. Geet Kosh lists six songs leaving space for the possibility of more songs. Singers for all the six songs have been mentioned. Suman Kalyanpur and Subir Sen are the singers. Suman Kalyanpur has sung three solos, whereas Subir Sen has sung one solo.
S.N. Tripathi is the music director. Out of the six songs of the movie two are known to be penned by lyricist B.D. Mishra. The song being covered today is one of these two songs.
Our senior member Shree Sudhir jee had introduced this movie on the blog on 06.01.2016 by presenting tth December 2015, Sudhir jee has also mentioned the following about this today’s movie.
Today I bring on a very rare solo song from an unreleased film, ‘Rani Chandrawati’ from the 1960s. Some sources peg the year for this film as 1968. However, as per the Geet Kosh, this film was not released for exhibition.
The second song from this movie, in the voice of Suman Kalyanpur, was posted on the blog on 17.12.2025.
Today I am presenting the third song from this movie here. This song is a duet song in the voices of Suman Kalyanpur and Subir Sen.

“Zameen Aasmaan”(1946) was directed by Dwarka Khosla for Saubhagya Pictures. During the making of the movie, Saubhagya Pictures was taken over by Prakash Pictures so the movie was promoted and distributed by Prakash Pictures, Bombay.
“Zameen Aasmaan”(1946) had Jeewan and Ranjana in lead roles. The movie also had Kusum Deshpande (Ranjana’s elder sister), Ramesh Sinha, Ved Prakash, Om Prakash, Bhola Ram, Sitaram, Burque, Athavale, Laxman, Tika Ram, Krishna, S Jadhav etc in it.

“Ahinsaa-1979” was directed by Chand for ‘Ashwin Arts, Bombay’. Shiv Kumar was the producer of this movie and it was passed by the Censor Board on 12.06.1979. Story of this movie was written by Chand and K.B. Pathak and dialogues were written by Jainendra Jain. Editing of this movie was done by B.S. Glaad.
The cast of this movie had Sunil Dutt, Rekha, Prem Nath, Ranjeet, Nirupa Roy, Alka, Kamini Kaushal, Rajendra Nath, Jayshree T., Jairaj, Trilok Kapoor, Tun Tun, Kundan, Mohan Shery, Bhagwan, Romeo, Jankidas, Birbal, Raj Kishore, Master Raju, Shiv Kumar, Keshav Rana, Rajan Haksar, Narendra Pathak, Major Anand, Ranveer Raj, Hiralal and others. I present a short song, ‘ab aayee barkha bahaar sajnee’ from the film, ‘Sangeet Samrat Tansen, (1962). The song is rendered by Mohammed Rafi who sings for Bharat Bhushan in the role of Tansen. The song ends with aalaaps and sargam rendered by Manna Dey who sings for M Kumar in the role of Swami Haridas.
The song is not listed in HFGC probably because being a short duration of about 2 minutes, the gramophone record of the song was not released. The song is not included in the LP record of the film. SAREGAMA has also not released the mp3 clip of this song. So, the only source of the song is from the sound track of the film.

Hullo Atuldom
27th April 2009 was the date when Zulfiqar Ali Shah Khan – better known as Feroz Khan- bid adieu to this mortal world. He was only 69 or 73 at that time (there is no clear year of birth available anywhere on the internet).
He was born in Bangalore (which was part of the Kingdom of Mysore at that time) in 1935 (according to some accounts) or 1939 (as mentioned at other places on the internet) to parents who were from Persia & Afghanistan. He was educated in schools of Bangalore but never went to college (by his own admission). But, looking at the way he conducted himself on-screen- the walk, a drawl in the dialogue delivery etc. would make the audiences feel that he was someone who was educated in some overseas university. He brought the wild west to Bollywood with his leather boots, hats and cigars, and he did it with swag.

The star cast included Pradeep Kumar and Leela Naidu in the lead role supported by Mumtaz, Veena, Jayant, Hiralal, Jeevan, Vijaya Chowdhary, Jagdeep, Helen, Madhumati, Mridula, Ulhas, Naaz, Rajan Haksar etc. This was Ram Dayal’s first film as director though he had been producing films under his banner, Mukul Pictures/Movies/Enterprises.
