Today (15th January), the nation honors the Army man, the soldier and the fighter who gives up and sacrifices a lot in his life, even himself, for the sake of protecting other fellow human beings. We celebrate the 68th Army Day today.

I grew up in a small town where everybody knew everybody and also knew each other’s ‘kartoots’. I was young enough not to understand some conversations of grownups. On one occasion when I was at a fruit sellers shop, with my father, a prominent person came to buy mangoes. It was beginning of the mango season and they were very dear. The shop keeper asked him “Sir, is it for house no. 1 or for house no. 2?” I looked at my father and he warded off my questioning look and started examining mangoes on the rack.

Today is the birth anniversary of C.Ramchandra, one of the Best Music Directors the Hindi film industry had. I am glad that I posted this song when I did. As per my search, this is possibly the last song of Rafi Sb that starts with ‘ऊ’, and not yet posted on our blog. Just made it by cat’s whiskers. Otherwise, I would have been expressing regrets, just like for ‘ई’. 🙂

As it is, I am able to maintain little regularity and consistency in posting the songs that I so dearly want to. And then there are other factors that keep distracting me and taking me away from my own planned tracks (pun intended 🙂 ). So I get to start preparing a particular song for posting. And then a message will intervene – “do you have such and such song? Goodness, I just need to listen to it now” or a variation is that someone else, very dear to the requestor wants to listen to it. And so, one more draft continues to sit in the wordpress and my hard disk, and completely different song starts getting prepared.

After posting the ‘thhumri’ ‘Saajan ki Baat Niraali’, here is one more ‘thhumri’ by Suman Kalyanpur under the direction of Khan Saheb Abdul Rehman Khan. The traditional lyrics were modified by Khan Saheb himself. These two thumries were on an Extended Play disk (EP) and was purchased by me 46 years ago in January 1969.
