Hullo, hi, pranaam. Good day to all of Atuldom.
Today (8 december 2018) we have a handsome man turning a year older. He has crossed 80 a few years ago but that has not reduced his charisma or charm or fan-following. He is still active on the silver-screen, even if only in home productions, and has his sons as his co-stars.

Hullo to Atuldom
At the outset let me wish our friend of Atuldom “A very Happy Birthday” and lotsa of love and joy forever. Let her always be a mystery (paheli); atleast till I meet her personally. But from accounts about her that Sudhirji had once shared on the blog and Atulji’s had written in his post I am very eager to meet her. Till then I will be content with the occasional telephonic chat or WhatsApp masti that we indulge in. Wish you a very Happy Birthday Khyatiji. Have a great day musical day.

‘Dhongee’ (censor certificate 23-12-1976), was a movie directed by Ashok Roy and produced by Kant Kumar productions. It seems to have had a delayed release (Wikipedia says it was released 4th May 1979). It has a starcast of Randhir Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Asrani, Sujit Kumar, Farida Jalal, Iftikhar, and Premnath. Rakesh Roshan had a friendly appearance. The lyricist to this movie was Anand Bakshi and music director was Rahul Dev Burman. The movie had five songs and Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar and Amit Kumar were the playback singers. One song of this film – “Haaye Re Haaye Tera Ghunghta” – has been posted earlier, as a contribution by Pamir Harvey where a brief outline of the movie is provided. This song is popular to this day. I remember that sometime in the late 90s or early 2000 there was a remix version to this song which triggered the memory of this song. As I sat to write this post I discovered that there has been another version of this song which has been used in a recent movie titled ‘Paisa Vasool’ (2004) – I don’t know anything about this recent movie.

8th November, this year (2018) was bang in the middle of the festivities connected with the big Indian festival of lights Deepawali, which is said to symbolize Rama’s return to Ayodhya after completing the stipulated 14 years of exile. It is said that since the day he returned was the day of Amavasya whole of Ayodhya was lit up to pave the way for the Lord. Another belief is that it marks the vanquishing of the demon Narkasura by goddess Kali and so one of the five days of festivities is called “Kali Chaudas” or “Narka Chaturdashi”.

Surprise! Surprise!! Surprise!!!
Found one more song, very popular in its times? No, even today. Perfect for the category – How come this song was not posted earlier? It is absolutely amazing that after 14730 posts (number of songs posted will be more as has been explained a few times before) we still find popular songs that are yet to make an appearance on the blog. What to do? Bollywood music is an ocean and we are still standing at the shores.

Sachin Dev Burman is, beyond doubt, the most sensitive instrument of musical inspiration – his soul is the very soul of music, the very soul of magic. Navketan ….is synonymous with Burman …whose songs are nesting places of whistling birds, tinkling bells and sobbing flutes….. A genius who has breathed music, dreamed music, lived music all his life.
This was a part of a signed note written in his own hand writing by Dev Anand, probably as a tribute to S D Burman. The entire note was reproduced in the book “The Navketan Story – Cinema Modern” by Sidharth Bhatia (2011).
Today, October 31st 2018 is 43rd Remembrance Day of Sachin Dev Burman (01/10/1906 – 31/10/1975), a legendary music director whose song compositions of 1950s through early 70s sound as young today as they did at the time of their creation. On S D Burman’s 112th birth anniversary on October 1st, 2018, I had set out in an article on this Blog, his journey from the Royal Tripura Family to the country side of the then East Bengal, to Calcutta (Kolkata) and finally to Bombay (Mumbai) to become one of the leading music directors of the golden period of Hindi film music.

This song from the film Suhaag (1979) has been waiting in my drafts for a long time now. It is a group song based on Punjabi folk and a popular one at that.
It so happened that when I saw Peevesie’s Mom’s post yesterday on Rekha’s birthday, got an idea in the mind to do a post for Amitabh & Rekhas birthday together with a song of both of them. There are a lot of songs featuring these two as a couple yet to be posted in the blog.

6th October, he would have been 72. Life is such. It always, well almost, seems as if this was not the time to go. But this passage is such – no one has any say about it. One can only express emotions and reflect upon the loss. And then there are souls, people who are more close to heart than others. And the loss, the vacuum, seems to be bigger and deeper.

Todays’ song has Anand Bakshi and Anand Milind get together to give the movie goers Anand (joy!). it is from a movie which was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee for GP Sippy’s production – ‘Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kaate’ (1998). The movie stars Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Amrish Puri, Anupam Kher, Reema Lagoo and Sajid Khan.
