[A poet’s perspective it is. We are all aware that the life breath will cease one day. But still, when a dear one departs, the sadness in the heart expresses itself in these very words. . . “Tum Na Jaane Kis Jahaan Mein Kho Gaye”].
The words are from the pen of Sahir – the poet extraordinaire, whose poetry has touched every strand in the fabric of life, every passion, every sentiment of the human psyche. A poet who has given us near about seven hundred film songs, that express a multitude of emotions coloring the canvas of life.
Remembering Sahir Sb, on the anniversary of his passing away today (25th Oct, 1980).

GIRLS SCHOOL (1949) was produced under the banner of Lokmanya Productions ( a joint venture of Kavi Pradeep and Amiya Chakraborty). The film was directed by Amiya Chakraborty. Interestingly, one of the assistant directors for him in this film was Guru Dutt. The star cast included Geeta Bali, Sohan, Sajjan, Shashikala, Mangala, Ram Singh, Vimla Vashisht etc. Amiya Chakraborty has been known to produce/direct socially relevant films which he must have got this legacy from his association with Bombay Talkies.

Today’s song is from a film ‘Khoobsoorat’-52. It is sung by Asha Bhonsle. The lyricist was Shams Azeemabadi and the music was by Madan Mohan, who was assisted by V.Balsara, Sonny Castelinho and Bipin Dutt ( of the Bipin-Babul jodi later on). Today 21st October 2016 is the birth anniversary of Shammi Kapoor (21.10.1931-14.08.2011) – the ‘charming’ – ‘flamboyant’ – ‘infectious energetic’ (as some sources mentioned it) – ‘graceful’ etc.etc. One may keep on adding the adjectives that would come to mind and when one is talking of Hindi Cinema, we know we are talking of Shammi Kapoor.

During the last few weeks, I have started keeping a tab on Radio’ Ceylon’s special programme ‘Puraane Filmon Kaa Sangeet – Kam Sune Ansune Gaane’ which is broadcasted at 7.30 a.m. on Wednesdays. It is in this prograame that I get a chance to listen to some of the rare songs. However, most of the time, I find that such songs have already been covered in the Blog. As I had said in one of my earlier articles, even if there are a few such rare songs in the programme which have not yet been represented in the Blog, I generally like to pick up only those songs which sound melodious to me and have good lyrics. With these backgrounds, nowadays, it is difficult to find rare songs in the programme which I can pick up for the Blog.

Hullo to all the ek din ka gods
My salutation is such because Indian culture (as seen in Indian movies) has taught us that Pati Parmeshwar hota hai. i.e. husbands are to be treated as Gods. I am sure no lady will object to this if the husbands also treat their wives as devis- meaning Goddesses. But we will not get into this discussion on this auspicious day.
