Hullo Atuldom
Yesterday (27 march 2018) was World Theatre Day. I learnt about this in the morning yesterday, as I was listening to the Vividh Bharati. Apparently, this was initiated in the year 1961, by The International Theatre Institute. It is celebrated annually on 27thMarch.

Aah, Shyama. . . the vivacious, bubbly, chirpy, charming Shyama. That is the image that the mind always carries, of this spirited young lady, so full of life on the screen. Some memories and some reflections are so firmly engraved in the mind that it simply does not register or acknowledge the passage of time and the passing of eras. This the comment by our own Ava Suri ji, that I find on the YouTube upload page of this song. Yes, ‘rollicking’ is just the right word to describe the tenor of this song. By the way, the YouTube channel on which this is posted is titled ‘The Edwina Channel’. And for those who are familiar, this channel is managed by Dan Thomas (aka Thomas Daniel). Dan has been actively collaborating with dear Greta Memsaab, for cleaning and sprucing up digital videos of old Hindi films, subtitling them and putting them up on the YT. Our dear Raja ji is also part of this effort.

So today (25 september 2013) is the 53rd birthday of Master Satyajeet (DOB 25 september 1960) who played the role of a young Dev Anand in “Hare Rama Hare Krishna”. He grew up and did a few movies as main lead mainly in Rajshri Films— Paheli (1977), Gopal Krishna (1979) etc and then probably he realized that he was getting nowhere as far as leading roles were concerned.

“Behroopiya” (1971) was a Madan Chitra Production movie. It was produced by Ram Kumar and directed by Rajesh Nanda. The movie had Dheeraj Kumar, Snehlata, Faryal, Madhumati,Junior Mehmood, Hira Lal, Honey Irani, Daisy Irani, Helen, Chitra, Ram Kumar, Sheikh etc in it.

BA MA PhD ye diplomaay ye degree

Trying to think of all other songs on the Hindi screen that contain the names of the educational degrees and qualifications. How far back do you think this trend goes ? Well, all the way back to 1936, to the time of Saigal Saab. The film ‘Krorepati (The Millionaire)’ has a duet by Saigal Saab and Pahadi Sanyal –‘Jo Naukri Dilaa De, BA Dilaane Waale’ . Then the next one that I can locate is ‘Hum Se Nain Milaanaa BA Pass Kar Ke’ , a Madan Mohan / Raja Mehndi Ali Khan creation sung by Mukesh and Shamshad Begum in 1950. Then in 1954, the Kishore, Usha Kiran film ‘Adhikaar’ has a song ‘BA MA PhD’ created by Prem Dhawan and Avinash Vyas, and sung by Asha Bhosle. Then fast forward to 1971 and the path-breaking film by Gulzar, ‘Mere Apne’. And the song – ‘Haal Chaal Thheek Thhaak Hai’. The second line of the mukhdaa of this song goes like ‘BA Kiyaa Hai, MA Kiyaa; Lagtaa Hai Wo Bhi Aiwen Kiyaa Hai’.
