Here is that day again.
Yes, it is the 31st of July (2018) today – which for HFM lovers, wherever they are in the world, signifies just one thing.
The death anniversary of Mohammad Rafi – respectfully referred to as Rafisaab, by one and all.
I am sure there will be events around the country to solemnly mark the occasion. Why just in the country, probably even across the world, considering how distributed India’s diaspora around the world is.
Millions of people will be remembering today as Rafisaab’s Remembrance Day – a term we also often use on this blog.

The poem, kaarwaan guzar gaya gubaar dekhte rahe and the poet Neeraj are inseparable. The poem was later adapted as a song in the film ‘Nai Umar Ki Nai Fasal’ (1965). But if I mention a verse from a ghazal, ‘kaarwaan guzra kiya raahguzar dekha kiya’ with more or less similar import, most of the readers of the Blog (barring those who have interest in the Urdu poetry) may not be aware as to who wrote this ghazal. The poet of this ghazal was Faani Badayuni. This name may not ring bell but the name will surely bring into the minds of most of us, another poet-lyricist from Badayun, Shakeel Badayuni.

Remembering Mukesh on his birthday (22 July 1923 – 27 August 1976)
Mukesh singing for Bappi Lahari is bound to raise eyebrows for the simple reason that the two artists worked in two different periods of time.
However, when Bappida started his hindi music journey in the beginning of the 70s, Mukesh was still giving playback. His first score for hindi movies was for the film Nanha Shikari (1973) and incidentally his first composition featured Mukesh. This was a pleasant surprise for me, when I was going through some articles on Bappida. For his fans here is his official website.

22nd July is the 95th birth anniversary of Mukesh Chand Mathur better known the world over as Mukesh; the man who was the voice of Raj Kapoor (mostly), Dilip Kumar, Feroz Khan, Manoj Kumar, Sunil Dutt etc.

Hullo to all atulites
In the euphoria to celebrate the blogs 10th anniversary with an appropriate post last week I missed out on a few anniversaries, occasions for which I always try and send a special song. I just realised that 18th July is the anniversary of another favourite. So here is a song for the occasion.
But I think, we can have a song featuring one in a movie in which the other is the main lead. The two actors I was thinking of combining are Rajesh Khanna and Sanjeev Kumar.

Today is the death anniversary of one of India’s biggest superstars, Rajesh Khanna, affectionately referred to as Kaka. He passed away on the 18th of July 2012. I remember being shocked to hear of his death – and even wrote an emotional post on my blog on the occasion. Although I did know that he had been suffering from cancer, the news hit me hard. Today, it is already 6 years since his death. How time flies!
